Murphy has conditionally vetoed a bill that mandated body-cameras for all uniformed police because the source of funds – civil forfeiture proceeds – is too small. All in, the body-cams would cost about $55 million. The legislature passed the bill by wide margins and the governor called the cameras a “wise public investment.” But apparently there’s no money for it.
This is precisely the sort of need that is buried by the unwise public investment of putting a record $4.7 billion into NJ’s broken and unreformed pension system. The governor is perfectly happy to throw $4.7 billion of good money after bad because it makes his public sector union pals happy. Meanwhile, NJ citizens must do without a “wise public investment.”
