February 21, 2020An InsiderNJ Press Release announced the creation of a new coalition named “For the Many.” The Steering Committee includes two powerhouse public-sector unions – the NJEA and CWA – as well as New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP), Working Families Alliance, Citizen Action, Work Environment Council, Anti-Poverty Network, and Make the Road. Save Our Schools (SOS) and Clean Water Action are also members. They are calling for a state budget with $3.1 billion of new taxes to fund increased state education aid as well as other state-funded progressive priorities.
But all these organizations are already part of the Better Choices coalition, which is run by Working Families, NJEA, CWA, NJPP, Citizen Action and Clean Water Action. “For the Many” is just Better Choices with a new name, run by the same people and funded by the same special interests.
As detailed in SPCNJ’s “A Spider Web of Political Power and Influence,” NJPP, Working Families, Citizen Action, Work Environment Council all receive substantial funding from the NJEA, and SOS, Anti-Poverty Network and Make the Road are tried-and-true NJEA allies. All are key participants in the vast, inter-connected network of progressive groups that has been built, funded and organized by New Jersey’s most powerful special interests, the NJEA and its public-sector union allies.
It’s no surprise that For the Many is calling for the same tax increases and policy goals as the NJEA.
For the Many sounds like it’s for the majority of New Jersey citizens. It’s not. It’s just the same taxpayer-funded, deep-pocketed NJEA and its network of allies. “For the Special Interests” is a more apt title.
